Variable Gain Amplifier
The Variable Gain Amplifier is a non-inverting op-amp circuit that allows for a wide range of selectable gain values as well as a variable gain value with the use of a potentiometer. The kit demonstrates the principles of a non-inverting amplifier and the instructions include the explanation of the circuit as well as the formula that describes the gain of the circuit. An output buffer is provided to improve the output impedance of the Variable Gain Amplifier and the kit offers a maximum gain of up to 100. Please note that the LM358 has a maximum output voltage of VCC – 1.5V so if a 5V power supply is used for example then the maximum output voltage that you can achieve is 5 – 1.5 = 3.5V.

Applications
The VGA is an ideal kit for use in the classroom as it teaches about op-amp voltage amplifiers while also providing a physical circuit that can be tested to demonstrate the properties of voltage amplifiers. The small component count allows for the kit to be built in under an hour, and the simplicity of the project enables students to quickly test the kit with a few external components including a battery, potentiometer, and voltmeter.
Notes
Note that product specifics such as output frequency depend on the tolerance of the components. The numbers provided here are an approximation only. Also take note that the estimated delivery is not guaranteed (unless special delivery is chosen) and free delivery has a maximum waiting time of two weeks. Any product that is returned which is built using lead solder is ineligible for a refund.
