Product Description

This kit is part of the SMD Trainer range that only uses SMD parts to test out your soldering skills. With this kit, build a Hi/Low detector that can alert you when a signal is either too low or too high. Two on-board LEDs indicate whether the signal is too low or high, and two potentiometers provide full control of the high and low detection levels.

Before making this kit, be sure to read our SMD soldering guide found in our resources page, and pay extra attention when positioning components because de-soldering SMD parts can be extremely challenging.

Applications

The Hi/Low Detector SMD Trainer is an excellent kit for testing soldering skills, especially with the potentiometers and the MMBT3904 transistor (as these are very small). Regarding practical applications, this small module is great for scenarios where some control signal needs to be maintained at a specific level (such as a temperature-controlled environment). The high output can be used to control devices, while the low output can be used to enforce a safety system or failsafe. For example, a green house that gets too hot can use the high output to open the windows, but if the temperature falls too low, then the low output can be used to engage a heater.

Notes

Note that product specifics such as output frequency depend on the tolerance of the components. The numbers provided here are an approximation only. Also take note that the estimated delivery is not guaranteed (unless special delivery is chosen) and free delivery has a maximum waiting time of two weeks. Any product that is returned which is built using lead solder is ineligible for a refund.
